Getting started

Your details, and how often you hear from us

Your name, your email, your password, and the three frequencies an alert can arrive at.

Your account page holds the handful of things that are yours rather than your school's: your name, your email address, your password, and how often you want to hear from the site.

Your name and email

Change either on your account page. Your name is what appears on a register, on a certificate and beside anything you write in the forums, so it is worth having it as you would want it printed.

Your email address is where every alert, invitation, reset link and booking confirmation goes. If it changes, change it here first, because a reset link sent to an address you no longer read is not much help.

Your password

Also on your account page. You are asked for your current password as well as the new one, which is what stops somebody who finds your laptop unlocked from quietly taking the account.

Long is better than complicated. Three or four unrelated words beats a short word with a digit and a punctuation mark on the end, and you will remember it.

Alerts

The site sends alerts when something happens that you would want to know about: a renewal invitation, an order that needs approving, a training place confirmed, an e-learning deadline approaching, a reply in your help conversation.

Each kind can arrive at one of three frequencies, set on your account page:

SettingWhat it means
ImmediatelyAn email as it happens. Right for anything with a clock on it.
DailyOne message a day gathering everything from that day.
WeeklyOne message a week. Right for things you want to know but not today.

Whatever you choose, everything is also on your notifications page inside the site, and the count beside it in the header tells you when there is something new. Turning email down does not mean losing anything.

What is not on this page

Anything about your school rather than about you: the address, the telephone number, the finance email and the number on roll are on your school's details and are edited by a School Admin. Your permissions and your spending cap are set by a School Admin on the people page, because a permission you could raise yourself would not be one.

Your training record

Everything you have completed is at your learning record, with a printable version. It follows you: it is your record of your own professional development, not a list your school keeps about you. See your own training record.

Not what you were after?

Ask City Council in the bubble at the corner of any page, or open your help conversation in full. It is one conversation that never closes, so there is nothing to raise and no subject line to invent.
