Running a service area

What a Service Lead can reach

Your own service areas, everything inside them, and the deliberate limits of that.

A Service Lead runs one or more service areas: their catalogue, their courses, their e-learning, their writing and their conversations. The service area is the front door to all of it.

Scoped to your own areas

Everything you can reach is scoped to the areas you have been given. Somebody running HR sees HR's services, HR's courses and HR's articles; the ICT catalogue is not theirs to publish and does not appear.

The scoping is applied on the server rather than by hiding links, so it holds whether you arrive from the menu or from a pasted address.

What you cannot do

Anything to do with money leaving the system, anything about the platform itself, and anything about a school's own record. Finance runs, settings, users across the borough, the audit log and single sign-on all belong to a System Admin. See what a System Admin can reach.

And you cannot place an order for a school. You can propose one, which arrives on the school's proposals page to accept or decline. The order is always the school's. That is not a limitation of your permissions; it is the product's central argument.

The help console

The conversations are not filtered to your area, because a school asking about the website does not know which team the website belongs to. Anything not yours is filed to whoever it belongs to in one action. See working the help console.

Getting the role

A System Admin sets it, and sets which areas it covers.

Not what you were after?

Ask City Council in the bubble at the corner of any page, or open your help conversation in full. It is one conversation that never closes, so there is nothing to raise and no subject line to invent.
