Putting a course on the map
A venue, an address and a pin, set from the screen and never needing a release.

A session can carry a venue name, an address and a pin on a map. All three are set from the course's own location screen, with no release and no ticket.
Setting it
Type the venue name and its address, then press Search. The address is looked up and a pin appears. Drag it if it is in the wrong place, which happens for anywhere with a long drive or a back entrance.
You can type the two coordinate figures directly if you have them from a survey or from a mapping tool.
Each date can be somewhere different
A series that moves round the borough carries a venue per session rather than one for the course. That is the ordinary case for anything run in schools, and it is why the location lives on the session.
What a school sees
The venue name, the address, a map with the pin on it, and a link out to a full mapping site for directions. Where a school has set its own pin, the two are on the same map, which answers "how far is this" without anybody typing a postcode into a phone.
It works with no map at all
Search is an ordinary form the server answers, so it works with scripting switched off. And City Council can switch maps off entirely: every venue, address and journey is unchanged, and what disappears is a picture rather than a capability.
The map never decides anything. It is an improvement on the address beside it, which is what makes it safe to have.
Getting the address right matters more than the pin
The address is what somebody puts in a car and what goes on a printed joining instruction. The pin is a convenience on top. Where the two disagree, fix the address first.
Where the tiles come from
City Council chooses the map tile source in the map settings, and address lookups go through this server rather than from each browser, so the lookup service is never told who was looking and its usage policy is honoured properly. Answers are cached, including the ones that found nothing.
Online sessions
An online session has no venue. Put the joining details on the session and leave the location empty rather than pinning your own office, which reads as a place to turn up to.
