Accessibility statement

This statement applies to Services to Schools, run by City Council.

How accessible this service is

This service is built to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA, which is what the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 require.

In practice that means:

  • Every task can be completed with a keyboard alone, and the focus order matches the visual order.
  • Every interactive element has a visible focus indicator, and it is the same one throughout.
  • Text meets a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 against its background, in both the light and dark themes.
  • Colour is never the only way information is conveyed. Every status carries a word as well as a colour, so a printed report and a greyscale screen read the same as a colour one does.
  • Every form control has a label, and every error names the field, says what is wrong, and says what to do about it.
  • Pages work at 375 pixels wide and at 200% zoom without content being lost or overlapping.
  • Nothing here requires JavaScript. Where it is available it removes steps; where it is not, the same task still completes.
  • Animation is suppressed for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion.

How to tell us about a problem

If you find something you cannot use, tell us and we will fix it. Include the page address and what you were trying to do.

We aim to reply within one working day, and to fix accessibility faults ahead of other work.

Technical information

City Council is committed to making this service accessible.

Assessment is by a combination of automated testing, manual keyboard-only testing, and testing with a screen reader. A third-party audit is commissioned within the first quarter of the contract, and this statement is updated with its findings, including any part of the service that does not yet comply.
