Buying and booking
Booking a place on a course
Reserve the places now and name people later. What a booking costs, and when it is confirmed.
On this page
Courses are at Training, as a list or as a planner laid out by date. Each has its dates, its venue, how it is delivered, what it costs per delegate and how many places are left.
Reserve now, name later
You book places, not people. Two places on a course in November can be reserved today and the names added in October, which is how schools actually work: the budget decision and the who-is-going decision happen weeks apart.
An unnamed place is a real booking. It holds the space, it is charged the same, and it appears on your training page with a prompt to name somebody.
What it costs
The price per delegate is shown net, with VAT and gross, before you confirm. Multiple places multiply it. If the total is over your spending cap it becomes a request rather than a refusal, exactly as it does in the basket.
Permission to book
Booking training is a permission of its own, separate from spending. A School Admin can give somebody the right to book without the right to commit spend more generally, which is the usual arrangement for a subject lead. See permissions and spending caps.
Once it is booked
- A confirmation email, with the dates and the venue.
- A calendar file on the course page, so the date goes into a diary rather than a list somebody has to remember to look at.
- The booking on your training page, which is where you name delegates, swap them and cancel.
If the course is full
Join the waiting list. It is not a formality: when a place is released the site offers it to whoever is next, holds it for them for a fixed time, and moves on by itself if they do not take it. See waiting lists.
Where it runs
The venue, its address and a map pin where City Council has set one. Where a course runs on several dates in different places, each date carries its own. A course delivered online says so and carries joining details instead.
On the day
Attendance is marked against the register by whoever runs the course. Marking somebody present issues their certificate on its own, so there is nothing to chase afterwards and nothing to ask for. See certificates.
Changing the booking
Not what you were after?
Ask City Council in the bubble at the corner of any page, or open your help conversation in full. It is one conversation that never closes, so there is nothing to raise and no subject line to invent.
